I came to poetry through the urgent need to denounce injustice exploitation humiliation. I know that's not enough to change the world. But to remain silent would have been a kind of intolerable complicity.
Was this an old disease and if so which one? If it was new what did that say about the state of medical knowledge? And in any case how could physicians make sense of it?
